An English "deceptive" glass, so-called due to the thick walls of the bowl which give the optical illusion of an ordinary glass full when the there is very little contents. The drinker can drink more glasses without intoxication. The bowl is cut with roundels and the pontil is ground. A glass dish decorated in decalcomnia (paper scraps fixed to the glass and covered in a backing or fixative) on a light blue ground . Dating from the 2nd half of the C19th., it measures 8 1/2ins. across . There is some loss and wear to the ground and a minute shell chip to the rim (see photo No.6) .
