Japanese Satsuma type pottery figure of Kannon
A very unusual Japanese Satsuma style pottery figure of Kannon (Kwannon or Chinese Guanyin) sitting upon a recumbent elephant. It is modelled with an open base with separate hands and feet in the fashion of C18th chinese porcelain. It is covrered with a finely crackled glaze and painted in famille rose enamels.

I can not date this accurately, but I think it is mid C19th. and possibly earlier. It stands 9 3/4inches (24.5cms) high and 7 inches (18cms) across the base.

There is damage to all digits of her right hand and the thumb of her left hand. She is in very good condition.
