Large rare special fine demonstration of Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) artisanship by one of the premiere Meiji Master Artisans. This exquisite vase features an exemplary well sculpted striking Dragon that wraps completely around the vessel with detailed tendrils, talons. Although fearsome and powerful, in Japan, Dragons are equally considered just, benevolent, and the bringers of wealth and good fortune. Signed on the bottom. (see photo). Circa 1870s. Dimensions: 15.1” h. X 9.5” diameter.
