Oil Painting Felix Ziem 1821 - 1911 Venice
"Santa Maria della Salute visite du Grand Canal" oil on board, signed by Felix Ziem (1821 – 1911) signed verso. Dimensions: 9.5" X 3.25". Felix Francois Georges Philibert Ziem, from Beaume, France, studied architecture at the Ecole d’Architecture de Dijon before traveling extensively with a circus caravan while painting. His style was influenced by the naturalistic approach of the Barbizon School. He was friends with the Famous composer Frederic Chopin and taught painting to Queen Victoria when she was only a Princess. In addition to establishing charities he received many awards and honors including Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. His works are displayed in Museums in Europe and America. While he bequeathed the City of Paris many works, Ziem is most associated with Venice, his spiritual home.
