| "Lakeside Cottonwoods outside Taos, New Mexico" oil on canvas, signed by Joseph Henry Sharp (1859 - 1953) lower right. Born in Bridgeport, Ohio, Joseph Sharp, was one of the first Caucasian artists to visit New Mexico was regarded as the "father of the Taos Art Colony," and was known for his Indian figure and genre painting as well as for exquisitely colorful landscapes. Dimensions: 19" X 23". His works are exhibited at Houston Museum; Orange Co. (CA) Museum; Butler Museum (Youngstown, OH); Southwest Museum (LA); Museum of NM (Santa Fe); Cincinnati Museum; Herron Art Inst. (Indianapolis). Sharp works have sold for as much as $1,497,000. "Aspens at Twining" Lot # 119 sold for $40,000 at Santa Fe Art Auction on November 12th, 2011 - a similar comparable piece to this work in terms of quality, size, subject, medium, mood, style, execution. | |||||||||
