| Bring strength, hope, wisdom and positive energy into your home in a special artistic manner with this very large (over 2 1/2 feet in height) very heavy and dense (over 50 lbs.and sinks in water) carved masterpiece Hanuman crafted out of the finest Indian Rosewood (Sono wood). This is the most heavy, dense, hard, rare, expensive, highly prized wood in Indonesia – Not to be confused with lesser woods such as Suar, Jempenis or Balau. It is truly rare to find a statue of this size in this, the finest wood, made with this level of artisanship. Most such pieces are less than 15” and made of lesser wood and much newer. The fine detail, grace, and scope of this special piece is exceptional. Iconology: Hanuman, the Monkey God, the embodiment of devotion, dedication, wisdom and strength (who helped Rama rescue is with Sita from the Evil Demon-King). Here we see him standing on a divine Chrisanthemum, symbol of hope, battling Sursa the multi-headed mother of snakes. Hanuman impresses Sursa so much that she praises and endorses him. Below a Garuda (divine being with a human body, eagle face) symbol of knowledge, power, bravery, loyalty, and discipline, helps Hanuman with his task. All are standing on the World Turtle (Bedawang Nala), where it dwells in the underworld, and carries the world on its back. There are a few slight cracks, expected with its age which have been fixed. Made in the City of Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. Circa 1890 - 1920. h. 32” X w. 14” X d. 9”. | |||||||||||||
