| “Coastal Bloom” Oil on canvas, signed by James Arthur Merriam (1880 – 1951). Born in Canada, famous listed artist James Merriam began his art career in Detroit, Michigan in 1897. He became a leading plein air painter in the California School with subjects including deserts, missions, Yosemite, Monterey, the High Sierra Mountains and Arizona deserts. Merriam settled in Los Angeles in 1920 where he continued his prolific career and remained until his death in 1951.
