Oil Painting Berenger Benger (1868 - 1935) Landscape
“Maid crossing Alpen Stream” Oil painting, paper on board. Attributed to Berenger Benger. Circa 1890s. Condition: The paper on board medium has deteriorated with significant Craquelure and fading of color. Beautiful original gilt hand carved wood frame. Zurich gallery stamp inverso. Dimensions: 16” X 14” with frame, 10” X 8” without. A painter of landscapes and town scenes in oil and watercolor, son of William Edmund Benger, he was born in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England and later studied art under Verlat at the Antwerp Academy. He traveled throughout Europe, Scandinavia, the USA and died in South Africa. He was a Member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and also an Associate Member of The Royal Society of British Artists in 1925 and a Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1927. Strong demand for his works is evident by the sale price of $2,094 for “Still Life with Books” by Benger, Lot 562 at Sotheby’s London on September 24, 1997. Don’t miss this opportunity to own such a fine work at a great value.
