This fabulous pitcher is probably classed as victorian imari or gaudy Welsh although not Welsh but made in the potteries of Staffordshire, England. It is 7 inches high with a hammered copper lid and was made by Samuel Johnson Britannia Pottery of Staffordshire England around 1890-1900. It has cobalt blue medallions & trim and a sampler of intricate gold patterns above the half reeded bottom of the jug & gold trim. The pitcher or jug has a hammered copper lid that fits into a slot/hole either side of the top with pins. The jug is in very good condition except for a cobalt glaze run underglaze done at the time of manufacture and some gold loss from use. Imari was popularized by the victorian craze for Japanese colors & designs at the time.
