This white stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made in the 1970s and is marked by the maker Nutbrown. The Nutbrown company has been making pie vents and other traditional British kitchenware in England for 50 years or more. The pie vent was made in Staffordshire England and I got it in the Potteries district recently. The pie vent measures 3 inches high by 2.25 inches in diameter and is in very good condition. A fun piece. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
