This is a fabulous antique cranberry glass hyacinth or bulb vase or jar used to force bulbs to bloom indoors that was made 1880-1900. I bought it in England. It is mouth blown, a rich cranberry color and stands 8.5 inches high with a ground pontil. The glass is about 1/8 inch thick. There are caliper marks to be vaguely seen along the sides. Bulb or hyacinth vases were very popular in the mid to late victorian era because of a fad of interest in botany and growing things indoors in glass houses in parlors. Th jar or vase is in very good condition with 1 small rim chip. The other thing is that it was used as a candleholder and there is some wax in the bottom. Needs a clean! A gorgeous color and very collectible and hard to find. Shipping in the US by USPS priority insured is $14.40.
