Elephant Pie Funnel Pie Vent Nutbrown Vintage English

This is a neat English vintage original porcelain pie funnel or pie vent made by Nutbrown, England in the 1930s in the shape of an elephant that is 3.5 inches high and is 3 inches wide. This cute little guy is supposed to let steam out of your pie so it doesn't bubble over during baking. It is marked Nutbrown inside. The elephant is in good condition with no chips but he is heavily crazed. Pie birds were developed in the 1700s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over. SOO cute!
