This antique white stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made in the edwardian period and dates to 1900-1920 and measures 2.5 inches high by 2 in diameter. The pie vent was made in Staffordshire, England and I got it in the Potteries district recently. The pie vent is in very good ++ condition. There is some light staining inside as it was obviously used and no chips or cracks and the steam hole is a bit primitive. A fun piece. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
