Middle Kingdom Stele- "A Confidant of the Pharaoh"
Middle Kingdom Stele, sculpted in monumental sunken relief. Displays the lower half of an inscription traditional to the period which reads "One who is in the heart of his lord". The "lord" referred to would be the Pharaoh. The meaning of the phrase "in the heart of" is "confidant," so the whole phrase would mean "A confidant of the Pharaoh." An example of the entire inscription can be seen in one of the picture enlargements, which shows the same inscription in honor of a noble named "Ipi", who served the Pharaoh Nebtauira Montuhotep IV during the 11th Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom. The stele shows beautifully with a white washed surface and is displayed on a custom mount, measuring 12" x 11" with mount. Provenance: Ex. Secret Eye Collection, NYC., 1977, Ex. Arte Primitivo, Howard Rose Gallery.
