Pre-Columbian Teotihuacan "Blood Drops" Talisman

Ca. 200-400 A.D., Teotihuacan, Mexico Valley. From the collection of Otto Von Winning,1914-2001. Von Winning was a distinguished scholar of Pre-Columbian civilizations notably West Mexican cultures. Probably best known for his corpus entitled Pre-Columbian Art of Mexico and Central America. He referred to these items in his journal as "objects held in the hand", more precisely held by the shaman during rituals. This piece is ceramic and displays a row of blood drops above a symbolic eye. It is 2 1/4" high by 1 3/8" wide with a chip at the very top of the piece, else intact.
