Haku Maki (1924-2000), the important modern Japanese Printmaker, began doing prints with persimmons as the main theme in the early 1970s, with the first one probably done in 1971. This print, Persimmon D, was done in 1977, as part of a series of Persimmon images in that year, beginning with Persimmon A and running through Persimmon G. Haku Maki (1924-2000), the important modern Japanese Printmaker, began doing prints with Ceramics as the theme seriously in the late 1970s and continued through around 1990. Most of the ceramics were of wine bowls and teacups. They were all realistically produced--they looked like the actual ceramic. This print is a red tokurri: it is not dated.
