This is a kind of tea caddy: a box for storing tea. The calligraphy on the cover is very well done. The front of the box is inscribed "Rock Tea of Wu Yi", a famous tea-producing area in Fujian province. The referencce to Longquan; we do not know if it is a place or not in Fujian. This is a mid-Qing piece.

ram on a basket. The ram is curled up, legs still very visible, his horns less so. The body is very realistic, he is a bit emaciated, all his rib cage is clearly seen. The boji -- Chinese for the kind of basket shown -- is in very good condition.

This scowling reptile is supposed to be a frog, and probably is. But he reminds me of an Arizona Gila Monster -- a very poisonous creature. The object is bronze, probably 19th Century, many warts on his back -- and that face, only a Mother could love. Somebody took a little piece out of it long ago, making him even more ferocious. Made in China.

This is a small but elegantly and elaborately carved zitan small brushpot, or a vessel for holding various tools. Middle Qing. Excellent condition even as a few minor chips on the rim.

square not round burl small brushpot well joined feet at the bottom of each side good patina. Late 19th Century. Very good condition with one minor exception: some color missing on one side, like a bruise. Height is about 9 cm, each side about 6 cm.

very well carved antler inkpaste box and brush washer The inkpaste box is 4.5 cm in diameter, it is 1.5 cm high; the brush washer is 5.5 cm in diameter, 1.5 cm high. The two pieces are about 100 years old and in very good condition.

This is a set of 8 small wine cups each with silver inlays. Six of them are virtually identical, two are not of the set. They were all used in a Hebei provincial household until being recently sold off. I have never seen so many at one go. The Zitan is fine, the silver inlays are as if they were drunk from a week ago. As is where is.

This beautiful "tray" was used in the Qing dynasty by artists and scholars either to "dry" their brushes or as a palette for their inks. The rosewood is elaborately carved with insects associated with water, a prominent pair of beetles facing each other may be seen. They rest on a flat lotus leaf of 33 sections. It has been carved out at the petals. There are no discernible defects.
