This large ruler was made in the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, 1736 1796. The two pieces of zitan of the ruler are connected by a Chinese coin of the Kangxi period 1661 1722. It would not have been around beyond the Qianlong period. This magnificent ruler was used to measure silk cloth and other fabrics in stores in Beijing. It could have been used in such venues as or even stores in the Imperial palace. or in Ruifuxiang or yuanlong
