This is a soapstone ensemble of scholar's objects. On the left is a very well-carved brushrest, excellent patina. In the center, what may called a brushpot but which one wag has called a wine cup. Very good patina. On the right: a contraption: it holds ink and water in the larger holes, small brushes in the center hole. Nice patina. The cup may be the oldest of the three. Condition of three is very good. The brushwasher: a few chips from us on the rim. Can sell each piece separately. Cu ...click for details

This is a single wine warmer cup. "One for the Road". The cover and base fit, the small inner cup also has glaze. This item is from an old Hong Kong Collection; I acquired it many years ago. Today, finding all 3 pieces in old sets: virtually impossible, even in a single ensemble. The wine warmer is used thusly: a bottle of already heated rice wine is brought to the table; its contents are poured into a large wine warmer pot OR directly into the little porcelain cup shown here. This is a Zitan bird cage with all the fittings necessary to keep a bird well fed: little porcelain bird feeders ready to feed the bird. He would have to be a class-act bird: this is a zitan bird cage. Most cages are made of bamboo, this is the only one I have ever seen of zitan. The top has an unusual aspect to it: a painting of a sparrow by an unknown master.

This was once the handle for a fly whisk. It is carved with frogs and monkeys. All well carved. Condition very good except at one end. lively piece. I bought it without the handsome horse-tail; an old craftsman from Shandong comes to Beijing regularly and, among other things, knits a little cover for adding the horsehair to the "stick" This is thus a half old half new and very handsome fly whisk. Only in Beijing!

Tiliang Yixing Teapots are relatively rare. Many break in the transportation. This is a miniature one, new. circa 1995. It is very well made, has the maker's mark in the bottom. This is a Mid-Qing table screen. The wood throughout is zitan; there are no condition problems. No breaks,no nicks. The stone is called lu dou stone, from China's Yunnan Province (in the Southwest).
