zitan purse clasp. The back is not carved, the front is carved with what seems like a bat at the top, a lizard on one side and a monkey perhaps in the center. This piece is light for zitan, it is probably 200 years old, maybe more. excellent condition. Roughly 6.5 cm long by 3.5 cm wide. This clasp would have been used to keep a very elegant embroidered purse or bag closed properly. Ivory one has no carving; it is 2.5 cm wide, 4.5 cm long.

This lingzhi fungus took many years to grow and it has been with me for many years. It was used in the Qing dynasty to decorate the scholar's studio; it is in excellent condition. No nicks which might have been present if it had been used in Chinese medicine. Its beauty lies in its rustic appearance. Note: it will have a stand made to show it off even better. It is 35 cm long, 22.5 cm high and 13 cm thick. The stand has been made by Beijing Master Cao. It too is a work of art.

This is a glorious burl frog toggle: it was done in late Ming early Qing China. The original boxwood design has probably been all worn off. What remains is a proud frog with copper eyes sitting in a basket. We suspect when first made, all the basket was carved, the frog had warts. Today: the basket weaving has worn off. If there were warts they have been worn down due to constant handling. It is now smoothe and gentle to touch. It is an elegant piece. The bronze eyes are staring at you. The ...click for details
