$1595 is the price for zitan one; ivory one: Sold

zitan purse clasp. The back is not carved, the front is carved with what seems like a bat at the top, a lizard on one side and a monkey perhaps in the center. This piece is light for zitan, it is probably 200 years old, maybe more. excellent condition. Roughly 6.5 cm long by 3.5 cm wide. This clasp would have been used to keep a very elegant embroidered purse or bag closed properly. Ivory one has no carving; it is 2.5 cm wide, 4.5 cm long.

This is a huanghuali huacha. That literally means it is a flower (bud) vase but could also hold incense sticks, small tools, etc. As the photos show, this is two pieces: the main cylinder is 14 cm tall, the feet are another 1 cm. The diameter is 5 cm at the top, about 4.5 cm at the bottom. The piece is thus beautifully almost not noticeably tapered from top to bottom. The separate plug (seems like a spoon of sorts)in frame 7 is 2.5 cm tall with a diameter of 2 cm. No defects to report This dat ...click for details

A toggle of boxwood in a "Buddhist Prayer Wheel" style. Great carving on both sides, reticulated. It sits on a hand-made stand, done in Beijing by a noted craftsman. Can be worn as a toggle. Beautiful work through out, a small nick on one side.

This is a finely carved "Buddhist Prayer Wheel" style toggle, full of ruyi on front and back. This is exquisitely reticulated. The boxwood has developed a fine patina. The stand was made in Beijing by a well-known contemporary carver. But this piece can equally be used as a toggle. From its patina, it clearly has been.

This looks like a Buddhist Prayer Wheel to me...It is on a custom-made stand, easily worn as a toggle; I have had it strung with a new product, a leather cord. The design is carved either out of rosewood or the boxwood has developed a very deep patina. Both front and back are filled with mushrooms.

This lingzhi fungus took many years to grow and it has been with me for many years. It was used in the Qing dynasty to decorate the scholar's studio; it is in excellent condition. No nicks which might have been present if it had been used in Chinese medicine. Its beauty lies in its rustic appearance. Note: it will have a stand made to show it off even better. It is 35 cm long, 22.5 cm high and 13 cm thick. The stand has been made by Beijing Master Cao. It too is a work of art.

This is a glorious burl frog toggle: it was done in late Ming early Qing China. The original boxwood design has probably been all worn off. What remains is a proud frog with copper eyes sitting in a basket. We suspect when first made, all the basket was carved, the frog had warts. Today: the basket weaving has worn off. If there were warts they have been worn down due to constant handling. It is now smoothe and gentle to touch. It is an elegant piece. The bronze eyes are staring at you. The ...click for details

This is an authentic full maizhen, made of chicken wing wood (Jichimu): we have never seen one in many years of collecting. It is a complete object: the place where he arm rests to take the pulse is connected to the base with strong wire. It folds together perfectly for the Chinese medical doctor to carry with him The patina on the maizhen itself is great, evidence of much use and many presumably cured patients.
