China Antique Zitan Box Chopsticks
This zitan box is for carrying silver chopsticks to a banquet. In less amiable days, silver chopsticks were used to test food to see if it was or was not poisoned. If the silver chopsticks turned black, the food had arsenic in it. Today: as a courtesy to guests, silver chopsticks may still be used. The box is a lighter than normal zitan, the top fits snugly into the box and needs to be gently pushed to open and close. Probably early 20th Century.
