The Bura people :almost nothing is known of this shadowy Nigerian/Malian group. They are said to have existed between 1100 AD and 1500 ADD, however the only archaeological excavated site (Nyamey) dates between the 14th and 16th centuries.
Many Bura pieces are either anthropomorphic or phallomorphic, and are often abstract.

this shield is either bango,hanga,bati,binja mbundja following ML felix in his weapon book "beauté fatale"1993p 182 ill 295
he dates these shields before 1920
they are made of wood(see the nice handle,)rattan and wowen fiber
their fragile material and the adge makes them difficult to find in perfect condition here most of the wowen binding around is missing but it does not affect the beautiful wavy shape of the shield
