Pair of bronze lamps with shades. Each lamp and shade depicts different beautiful nature scenes with Mt. Fuji as center. The finish and art work is in the damascene style that was popular in the 1960s, black background with gold tones. In very good condition. Japanese. Overall height is 24" x 13" at bottom of bell.
Clifton Karhu print image on an orange background, 100% cotton. Clifton Karhu was a famous Woodblock Print Artist who lived in Japan for most of his life, he died in 2007. His work is valued and collected all over the world. Japanese, Showa period. 35" x 35"
Five pelicans on a bridge with what looks like persimmons in their mouths. The pelicans and bridge are made of celluloid going over water depicted in wood. A charming and unusual image wonderfully executed. Japanese, c. 1940. 6 1/2" long x 3/4" deep x 1 1/2" tall . Pelican: 1/2" tall x 1/4" wide.
Ricksaw driver with a woman passenger. Amazing detail of the rickshaw, the driver's hat and Japanese lady in kimono holding a bag and probably a fan (missing) in the other hand. The back of the ricksaw seat has a scenery image of Mt. Fuji. The wheels are articulated. Celluloid, Japanese, c. 1940. 3" x 3", figures are about 2".
Pair of clam shells with miniature paintings, part of a Japanese game called "kai-awase" or shell-matching. Kaiawase also called Kai-oi was an indoor game originated at the end of the Heian period and mainly played by the ladies of the noble families. It was particularly popular at New Year's. Hand carved wooden combs called "tsuge gushi". Most probably camellia wood. As with everything in Japan, there are specialty shops that makes and sells particular items, for combs they are called "shinise" and only a handful are left. This pair is mid-20th century and in original condition. Measure 6" wide x 2 1/4" tall and 5 1/2" wide x 2 1/4" tall.
