Chinese ivory Burmese Pattern chess set and draughts

A Chinese ivory Burmese Pattern chess set and draughts compendium. The Kings are pierced and carved with crown finials and masks, their knopped ovoid stems with lotus and birds.11 cm high. The Queens with finials; Bishops as mitres with human faces; Knights as horses' heads; rooks as turrets with flags. There is also a set of 30 draughts and a pair of shakers which are carved with figures in pavilions. All is housed in its original cedar-lined mahogany box, measuring 35 cm wide.This is an importtant and magnificent item , on account of its breathtaking virtuosity , the largeness of the set with the King being 11 cm high and its excellent condition.Age : Canton C. 1820. condition: excellent.
