| An Anglo-Indian ivory veneered sewing box from the Visagapatam region, it is an imposing example of the restrained Neoclassical taste of Georgian England made by the excellent craftsmen of East coast India.The body is of sandalwood and the veneer is decorated with the typical black pen incised decoration of Greek key fret pattern ; the central vignette bearing entwined initials. The interior has several covered and open compartments with its accessories, the tray lifts up to reveal a vacant chamber underneath.Age: C. 1790/1800. size: 11 1/5 inches (29cm) x 9 1/4 inches (23.5cm) x 3 3/4 inches (9.5cm) high. condition: age-related fissures as seen in the images.The body and panels are stable, yellowing patches.
