| A Chinese ivory vase of monumental size (50cm high) deeply carved from one piece of tusk with two panels on each side showing figures in pavilions and pagodas. The sides are decorated in shallower relief with trailing stalks, whilst the imposing cover has a scene of figures under pine trees before rocks. The neck has shi-shi masks wit moving rings in the animals' mouth. A beautiful composition and well- hollowed. This is a very impressive centre piece of almost architectural appearance, with full-size figures. The width of the vase at its maximum is 17 cm. which indicates that the thickest section of the elephant's tusk was used for this monoblock tour de force.size: 50 cm (20 inches)high.age: C. 1915. condition: very good indeed.several age-related lines on the back of the cover and on the rim of the base. We can obtain CITES Export licence (3 weeks) if necessary. | |||||||||||||||
