| Sterling silver, footed thread holder, Birmingham, England, Harold & Ashwin - makers, retailed at Mappin & Webb. Hinged, pierced top has hole for thread to emerge, and is decorated with flowers, etc.; bottom is footed and decorated with flowers and swirls. Cartouche on "lid" is engraved with lovely, script "FV" monogram which looks like part of the design of the piece; the bottom half of the thread holder is engraved: "Many happy returns, 4th November, 1894." Small "dint" above one foot commensurate with age and use. 3.85 troy oz. @4" high x @3" diameter. Rare, lovely piece! | ||||||||
