Sterling Silver Mounted Ebony Conductor's Baton

Beautifully carved ebony baton with sterling silver nounts, London, hallmarked for 1884, John Henry Rawlings- maker. Mounts are decorated with swirls; center mount has the following later engraved inscription: "Presented to Mr. J.R. Smith by the P.M. Choir, Gillingham, 1904. Ebony is carved with a shell-like pattern that ends with a man's face on one side of the baton and a woman's face on the other. @17" long x @1 1/8" across top mount.Excellent condition.
