This is a beautiful sterling silver Victorian calling card case in perfect condition. The case measures 3 3/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches and is heavily engraved both front and back. There is a place for a monogram on the front. The calling card case is hallmarked: Queen Victoria' head/ Lion/ Anchor/ T. This hallmark translates to say that the case was made in Birmingham, England in 1868 from sterling of .925 quality and that tax was paid to Queen Victoria. The antique Victorian-era calling card case measures 3 3/8 inches by 2 1/4 inches across. A 7 inch chain is attached at the top and bottom of the case. The card case was manufactured by Wood and Hughes, a New York City silver firm and is marked "W&H Sterling".It is engraved with leaves in the aesthetic movement style. It also has the name, Mabel, engraved on one side. It shows signs of wear from use with a few dents. The card case dates from the late 1800s.
