English Sheffield Silver Serving Set

The English Sheffield 2-piece buffet serving set has a large flat server and a 4-tine fork. The large flat server measures 12 1/4 inches long and the oval-shaped blade is engraved and measures 6 inches by 3 inches across. The fork is 10 1/4 inches long and is engraved below the tines which measure 2 1/4 inches across and 2 1/2 inches long. The engraved area on the fork measures 1 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches. The handles of both pieces have beading along the edges. Both pieces are marked "MAPPIN & WEBB S&L". Mappin and Webb was established in Sheffield, England in the 1880s and acquired rolling mills in 1896. This set dates from the turn of the century. There is very slight wear on one tine and one small area of the server - evidence of careful use! A wonderful set to use and enjoy.
