| An artist who was also a monk did this original painting on a special type of unbleached paper, often used in Chinese watercolor. The painting was signed with his title – “Qing-Ju-Shi”, which meant that he was a kind of monk who was allowed to live outside of the temple and have a family. The name of the painting is “A beauty who is reading”. The poem written for her on the painting stated the following: “Millions of waves in the lake, all written in this picture.” Waves, in this context, certainly were not referring to the lake that was not in this picture, but something else. Chinese poems, often contain many innuendoes, this is no exception. | |
