| An artist who was also a monk did this original painting on a special type of unbleached paper, often used in Chinese watercolor. The painting was signed with his title – “Qing-Ju-Shi”, which meant that he was a kind of monk who was allowed to live outside of the temple and have a family. The name of the painting is “Picture of a beauty”, portraying a semi nude woman sitting on lotus flowers. Paintings such as this were banned after the communist takeover in 1949. The resurfacing of these paintings certainly is a sign of China opening up, and we are glad to obtain them once again. | |
