A lovely pair of antique lace sample books from the Greenshields Store in Montreal, Canada C. 1914. Books are material covered with gold lettering and Art Nouveau designs on the fronts. Interior pages are blue paper, with the black album having gold designs on the side. Both books have an extensive assortment of machine made lace samples
such as Beading, Valenciennes, Torchon Laces, Shadow Laces, Insertions, Embroidered & Silk Laces, and Nets. Most of the pieces have small pieces of paper attached with the type number to facilitate ordering. Most pieces are white in color, but the larger red book has some pages with black lace. The black volume has 46 leaves that have lace on them while the red one has approx. 107 leaves with lace. Each book has a few blank pages throughout. Not all the pages with lace are complete, but the assortment is quite varied and extremely interesting.
Condition: The books have some age wear as can be imagined, as they were used in a store, but are still intact. Some pages missing samples, I would estimate 5% or less. Lace pieces are in very nice condition.
Books 17 X 11 inches. Red volume 1 ½ inches thick. Black volume Ύ inch thick
