This is truly a masterpiece of Japanese lacquer. Cannot find a signature on the piece, but the workmanship must be distinctive to experts in the field. The design is of a stylized water scene with various branches and blossoms in variegated gold and gray colors. There are five medallions, or mons, on the body, as well as two on the lid. The interior is a rich red lacquer color, and there was originally a small oval label on the bottom, which said c. 1750, but has come off over time leaving a small darker patch. Ewer stands on three feet. Exquisite workmanship and colors.
Condition: Tiny area of professional restoration on the red lacquer inside lip of the spout. A few minor lacquer loss areas, but overall in very good condition.
Size: height- 4.5 inches. diameter – 4 inches. diameter including spout – 6 inches,

These are lovely, and exquisitely crafted, Japanese lacquer hairpins from the Meiji period. The lacquer work is superb.
One is lacquered to resemble bamboo, even showing the distinctive bamboo stalk divisions. The mother of pearl top has a lacquered leaf design on both sides, and is signed.
The other hairpin has a bone or ivory top with some carving and shibiyama, or inlaid pieces. Tines are black lacquer with delicate flowers in three colors with gold lacquer centers.
Workmanship on these hairpins equates that of the best inro or other Japanese decorative lacquered items.
Condition: Tiny restoration on tip of one prong of the dark lacquer one.
Size: 5 ¾ inches long.
