A truly wonderful Satsuma necklace consisting of thirteen plaques of different scenes. The motifs include Samurai in elaborate costumes with raised gold work, Geishas in colorful outfits, chrysanthemums, and birds perched on flowering branches. The detail work is so amazing that it is difficult to describe each plaque, as all are different. Really an amazing group. The backs are silver colored with a Japanese mark on each one, and the plaques are joined by links so that the piece could be expanded if necessary. The links are longer by one loop one one side, so the piece falls well as a necklace. Closure is by a hook and loop. It does have to be placed a bit wide on the neck, and then falls beautifully. Each of the plaques is really a small work of art.
Condition: Very nice.
Size: Length-22 inches. Largest plaque- 1 7/8 inches in diameter. Others - 1 1/2 inches.

Very sweet carved wood netsuke that shows a young boy holding his long haired dog against his face. Not sure if this represents a Shi Shi dog, or just the boys well loved pet. The piece is beautifully carved, and the expression on the face is sweet and loving. Coat is colored in a red lacquer with black dots, something like a ladybug. It is possible there is a signature just below the coat, but is difficult to read. Rich color and luster to the wood.
Condition: Fine. No cracks or chips.
Size: Height: 1 7/8 inches.

This is a fascinating vintage turned wood and painted nesting figure. The piece is complete with seven figures of varying sizes from ½ to 5 inches in height. Unlike most of these, I believe this to be of Japanese origin, and, although I have seen other before, they were not complete. Each of the figures has a different expression on the face, depicting ... sleep, anger, happiness etc. At least it appears that way to me. Each of the figures is hand painted with different colors, and the piece is very well made.
Condition: Very nice. Bit of paint wear to the main outer figure.
Size: Height of the figures- ½ to 5 inches.

This is a very interesting enamel tray that I believe is on copper, although since the piece is gilded on the back, it is difficult to tell. The enamel work is exceptional, with a sky blue background against which are stylized images of two bats in the center, colorful butterflies on each end, a branch with leaves at the top, a ripening fruit at the bottom, and four delicate pink flowers around the circumference.
The images are done in delicate varying shades of green, pink, brown, red, blue, and purple, and the tray stands on four decorative ball feet.
Condition: Very good. There are a few bits of enamel loss and minor crazing and one flower is slightly bent, but the overall effect is beautiful.
Size: 10 X 7 inches.

This is a really delightful Japanese monkey nodder holding a pipe in one paw and a kagamibuta and tobacco pouch in the other. Material appears to be earthenware, beautifully decorated with textured as well as glazed areas. The short kimono is glazed, and decorated with bats, which I believe represents prosperity in Japanese folklore, and the glazed tobacco pouch has a series of Japanese characters on the front.
A very realistic piece done in great detail, and I would believe dates to the early 1900’s. Condition: Being hand made, the piece has very minor imperfections, but no cracks or chips. Head nods perfectly. Colors are beautiful.
Size: Height- 6 inches. Width- 4 7/8 inches.
