A lovely small antique Japanese lacquered drawered cabinet called a Kodansu. Beautiful lacquer mon (crests), each in a different design on three sides and on the top. The front has designs of fans. Metal work hinges and closing on the door. The interior has three drawers with black lacquer fronts showing gold designs of insects and a bird. Lovely shakudo pine cone handles on the drawers. The inside is speckled lacquer (nashiji). The base is scalloped. This is a lovely small piece with gorgeous lacquer work. Size: 3-1/4 x 3-7/8 x 2-5/8 inches Condition: Minor invisible joint restoration. One hinge is professionally replaced. There are two small indentations in the front but no lacquer loss. |
