An exquisite and rare Ernst Grossman 14 inch bisque doll that was made for the French market.
What is so rare about this doll is that she has an open mouth with upper and lower teeth and a slight overbite, which I would think was to emulate the Jules Steiner open mouth French doll.
I have not seen an Ernst Grossman doll with this type of mouth and teeth in the literature.
Beautiful bisque head with no chips, cracks, or hairline cracks.
Finely feathered eyebrows.
Inset blue blown glass eyes with dark rings around the striated iris. Pale lavender eyeshadow above the eyes. Painted upper and lower eyelashes. Delineated and shaded lips. Pierced ears into the head, and
a lovely long blonde mohair wig and a plaster pate.
The body is made of wood and, apparently Ernst Grossman was known for creating the first ball jointed body.
Straight wrists and initials on the body which appear to be EG although a bit hard to read.
Body is quite distinctive with leather in the neck socket to protect the neck. Head is incised with a 7 or a 4.
Very attractive vintage clothing and antique shoes and socks. Size: 14 inches. Condition: Bit of white area at top of forehead original to doll. Body could use restringing. |
