This is a very interesting needlework piece done in a tent stitch in wools and silks, and showing a scene of a sailor returning from sea to see his wife and child. He is holding a staff, with his ship in the background, and at his side is a wonderful stumpwork dog in browns and cream colors. The needlework scene is done on fine mesh and is typical of these earlier pieces, in that the background is left unstitched. A very lovely piece. Very nice. A few minor age spots and a couple of stitches missing. Colors, and quality, excellent. Size: 19.5 X 13 inches. Framed: 23 X 16.5 inches |
