This is an exceptionally beautiful early 19th century papier mache table snuff box by Stockman of Brunswig, Germany. The box is handpainted in deep rich colors and shows an image of a young girl of the Netherlands, after the artist Van Dyke. The piece is documented in German on the interior of both the lid and base. The German script on the lid refers to the image, and the base is also marked ST 651 ST, which refers to the artist Stockman of Brunswig, Germany. Beautifully painted, and with phenomenal detail. One of the best examples of this type of work I have seen. Condition: Wonderful. Very fine minor crazing. No cracks or chips. Colors vibrant. Size: diameter – 3 ¾ inches. Height - ¾ inch. |
