This is a lovely antique oil painting on board of a stabled horse by the artist W H Wheelwright, a nineteenth century English artist well known for his paintings of horses, hunting, and racing scenes. 1857-1897.
This wonderful painting was likely commissioned by the owner of a stabled horse called "Lucy". The horse is saddled, and and the horse blanket is marked with the initials CP which are probably the owners initials. Beautifully painted, with rich colors and great expression. Signed and dated 1874. Frame is antique gilt gessoed, and the horses name is painted on the frame. Condition: Area of stabilization around the horse head where the paint was possibly lifting off. Otherwise fine. Size: 23 1/2 X 19 1/4 inches. |
