Quite an unusual Chinese Canton enamel water dropper. Designed in the shape of a lotus leaf and enameled, either over bronze or iron. Quite a heavy piece. The central design of the leaf is very sensually done with opalescent white and varying shades of blue. The bottom of the piece is designed as the reverse of the leaf. The small inside handle supports a tube from which water can be poured out, and there is a small hole in the bottom of the bowl where the water enters. Used in painting and calligraphy.
Quite a fascinating piece. Condition: Minor enamel loss, but does not detract from the overall appearance. Size: 5 X 3 3/4 X 1 1/4 inches. |
