This is a lovely antique 18th century small silver snuff box with a hand painted miniature on the inside. The box is probably European as I see no English hallmarks. Inside the top lid is a beautiful hand painted miniature of an eighteenth century lady with flowers in her hair being presented with a bouquet of flowers by a young blackamoor servant. When an inset lever in the lid is pulled out, the lady's hand raises to her face and she smells a single rose. This is a very rare and unusual piece. Condition: Overall very good. There is some solder repair on the inside bottom, and some slight surface wear on the lid, but the image is still clear and visible as shown in the picture. Very small bit of inside silver corner edge is missing. Silver is bright, and the lid closes firmly. Lever that pulls out to raise and lower the arm works well. Colors in the miniature are excellent, and the painting is extremely detailed. Size: 2 3/4 X 1 7/8 X 3/4 inches. |
