2Die4!...
During the nascent years of the Mexican silver renaissance, master silversmiths began producing remarkable jewelry embellished with gemstones carved into pre-Columbian facemask motifs. At the same time, when World War II restricted the use of precious metals, U.S. jewelry makers like Eisenberg opened operations in Mexico. There, artisans crafted magnificent silver, much of it set with chiseled masquettes of dyed green onyx. This bracelet, marked only "Sterling, Hand Made," embraces the best of both these worlds, resulting in an awesome work of wearable art. Composed of three robust strands of curb link chain—with every other link ornately chased—it boasts a commanding gemstone facemask as its focal piece. Beautifully sculpted, the dyed onyx stone—otherwise known as Imperial Mexican Jade—displays superb depth of detail and is set within a meticulously fitted, silver bezel. The bracelet is further adorned with a smaller version of the stone mask, at one end of the chains, that serves as a singular and dazzling design flourish to house the box clasp. Thoroughly imposing and attention-getting, but not overpowering or flamboyant as sometimes these pieces can get, it makes for simply breathtaking jewelry. HALLMARKS: STERLING, HANDMADE. DIMENSIONS: 7-1/4" in length. The large mask centerpiece measures 1-5/8" x 1-1/2" and the smaller masquette is 3/4" x 1/2". WEIGHT: 53 grams. CONDITION: Excellent to superior vintage condition, definitely collector quality. The bracelet is fitted with a secure push button v-spring and box clasp. |
