| An antique treasure to add spice to today’s holiday and evening attire … Circa early 1900’s, this fabulous beaded dance purse is quite a rarity of design and construction. First, it’s nicely padded, weighty body is composed of a fine crochet knit in golden yellow thread, which alternates with both slender and broad, chevron pattern vertical bands of black glass bugle beads. Next, the bottom of the bag is embellished with a dainty and delicate loop fringe, also made of black glass bugle beads. Third, the interior is lined in a gold, silky faille. And last but certainly not least, the lid, carry chain, and button clasp are all early celluloid—the lid beautifully marbleized in black and gold {with an olive green cast}, with a pearly luster. As a delightful bonus, the underside of the lid is fitted with a beveled mirror, so you can easily sneak a peek at your hair and makeup, before the next waltz! Label: None. Dimensions: 3-3/8” in diameter x 8”, with 6-1/2” handle chain. Condition: This is an exceptionally well-preserved vintage piece. The only problem is the lining which has separated from the frame in one small section and the fabric is shredding. Otherwise, the crochet knit is in fine condition, with only a couple of loose threads. There are no missing or damaged beads evident, nor any missing or broken loops in the bottom fringe. The celluloid parts are in superb shape, with no cracks or splits, and the metal hinge that attaches the lid to the bottom celluloid frame also is in excellent condition. The interior mirror is intact and reflects well, with only some clouding and silvering wear. A remarkably roomy dance purse {my hand reaches down into it easily}, this is an eminently wearable accessory, as well as a singular collectible, perfect for display. | ||
