Boldly beautiful, dramatically designed, exceptionally executed … With a pre-Columbian motif that will astound you, this magnificent bracelet is without a doubt a significant investment piece for any advanced vintage Mexican silver collection! Crafted in sumptuous repoussé that even Mathilde Poulat would envy—and further embellished with intricate etching, stippling, and incising—this formidable, handwrought work is composed of five deeply convex, sterling silver elements or plaques linked together by hidden pins. The two outer elements depict Aztec warrior heads with superbly detailed faces—each ornately adorned in headdress, earrings, and neck ruff. The next two plaques are formed to resemble torsos clad in body armor, decorated with robust glyph patterns. The center element boasts the same ornate adornments seen on the silver warrior heads, but this time the face is composed of a nephrite gemstone, set in a silver bezel. The pale jade stone is elaborately hand carved and it majestically presides over the entire bracelet, imbuing it with a striking nobility and grandeur. Without a doubt, this is one of the most extraordinary jewelry pieces that I have come across in my years of collecting. It is a singular example of Mexican silver-making artistry from the 1930’s and ’40s. Hallmarks: P.OCHOA {in intaglio}; 925M {in intaglio}. Dimensions: 6-1/2” long, excluding box slide clasp {keep in mind that the elements are quite convex, which adds to the length}. The widest point of the bracelet measures 2” and the narrowest point measures 1” at back clasp. The silver face plaques measure 2” tall x 2” wide; torso plaques measure 1-3/4” tall x 1-1/4” wide; center plaque measures 2” tall x 2” wide. Gemstone inset measures 7/8” tall x 1/2” wide. Weight: 71.6 grams. Condition: Excellent vintage condition, definitely collector quality—no dings, dents, or other damage to the silver. The carved nephrite inset shows no cracks, chips, instability, or any other flaws. It should be noted that the button slide box clasp does not lock as tightly as it should {not surprising for a piece close to eighty-years-old}. This most probably can be adjusted by a professional jeweler. You also may want to add a safety chain to protect your investment. |
