Early Mexican MATL ERA REPOUSSE Silver Face Pin
In the masterful manner of Matl … Dating from the 1930’s or earlier, this impressive, handwrought brooch boasts the sublime design sensibility, expert technique, and opulent, detailed répoussage characteristic of those pieces by Mexico City maestra Matilde Eugenia Poulat. Here, a resplendent headdress, elaborate, dimpled dot earrings, and lush neck ruff, frame a majestic chrysoprase or calcite facemask. The silver framework boasts high-relief repoussé and cincel or chisel-worked “feathers,” as well as half bead accents, deep incising, and oxidizing that emphasizes the definition and dimensionality of the overall design. The imposing, polished gemstone has been magnificently hand carved and is securely held in place by six substantial, round-tipped, silver prongs. At once refined and robust in its presentation, this is an exceptional piece of wearable art, as well as a prized addition to any early Mexican silver collection.

HALLMARKS: MADE IN MEXICO; SILVER. DIMENSIONS: 2-5/8” x 2”. WEIGHT: 38.6 grams. CONDITION: Superior vintage condition, definitely collector quality, including an old-style C-clasp closure.
