SPECTACULAR Vintage PERUVIAN Silver BRACELET ~ 95.5G
Rare + Rarified … In my many adventures with vintage Peruvian silver, I have never come across a work as astonishing as this bracelet. Handwrought in .900 silver, the imposing piece is composed of five deeply convex panels, interconnected by soldered O-rings at the top and bottom. The finely stippled panels, with incised, glyphic borders framing their top and bottom, serve as sublime, textural settings for a magnificent display of applied, pre-Columbian silver figures. Each surmounted figural is quite large and masterfully defined, employing high-relief répoussage, meticulous cutwork, deep incising, and oxidizing that further enhances the superbly sculptural quality of the icons. The four outer panels mirror image one other—two displaying a fascinating Inca deity carrying a bird on his back, the other two showing a fearsome, seated jaguar or leopard. The larger center panel, obviously designed as the showpiece of the bracelet, boasts a majestic and stylized representation of Viracocha, primary god of the Incas. For aficionados of vintage Peruvian jewelry, pre-Conquest Inca lore, and extraordinary wearable art, this bracelet is a fabulous find.

HALLMARKS: WELSCH; {Welsch llama logo}; 900. Welsch was a Peruvian silver shop that sold high-end jewelry, including pieces by Graziella Laffi. DIMENSIONS: 7-” long x 2” wide. WEIGHT: 95.5 grams. CONDITION: Most likely dating to the 1950’s, the bracelet is in superior vintage condition, including a secure push button v-spring and box clasp.
