Fabulous Mexican silver making from one of the world’s foremost costume jewelry designers … In the 1940’s, legendary designer Marcel Boucher {who apprenticed with Cartier} turned to sterling silver to create his jewelry works. He established the Parisina hallmark, which defined an elegant line of pieces produced exclusively in Mexico, during the World War II years. Since the mark was used so briefly, today Parisina jewelry is highly collectible and becoming more difficult to find. This exquisite bracelet is one of Boucher’s signature designs for Parisina. Handrought in sterling silver, it is composed of nine large links joined together by flat connectors. The links, which boast a boldly dramatic, shell-like motif, have been masterfully fluted en repoussé and are open in the back. The silver itself is resplendently radiant, reflecting light from every direction. A showstopper of imposing dimension and definition, this is a singular entry in the Parisina line—superlative wearable art and a dazzling display piece for any pre-Eagle Mexican or Marcel Boucher collection. HALLMARKS: For some reason, the hallmarks have been scratched over and so are difficult to read. However, enough is visible to discern the outline of PARISINA on the back of one shell; and parts of STERLING on the v-spring of the clasp. Marcel Boucher is featured in Bille Hougart’s The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks. DIMENSIONS: 6-3/4” in length x 1-1/4” wide x 3/4” deep. WEIGHT: A very substantial 85.5 grams. CONDITION: Excellent to superior vintage condition, with minimal wear to the silver. The push bar v-spring and box clasp holds securely, and there is a permanently affixed safety chain that is original to the piece. |
