Rare G. LAFFI Peruvian MODERNIST Silver Figural PIN
“The Spratling of Peru” … Florentine-born, Graziella Laffi lived and worked in Peru during the 1950’s, producing singular and stunning silver pieces in both modern and pre-Columbian forms. Most aficionados believe that her creations rival the masterworks that came out of Mexico. She is one of today’s hottest collectibles in the field.

The pre-Inca Nasca culture believed in a host of mythical creatures who possessed great spiritual powers. The most common of these were anthropomorphic beings, such as the one seen in this dazzling Laffi pin. Infused with the artist’s marvelous modernist flair, the pre-Columbian figure is part fish, with jagged teeth and spiked body; and part man, with human arm grasping a club. Handwrought in .925 silver, it boasts Laffi’s signature silver making at its most spectacular—including astounding cutwork, superbly applied silver, and stunning linear incising enhanced with oxidizing. With the added flourish of a vibrant, turquoise enamel eye, set in a silver bezel, this is an outstanding piece of wearable art, and distinctive collectible for aficionados of Graziella Laffi and modernist jewelry.

HALLMARKS: PERU, G. LAFFI, 925. DIMENSIONS: 2-1/8” tall x 1-3/4” wide. WEIGHT: 15.7 grams. CONDITION: Dating to the 1950’s, it is in excellent vintage condition, including a secure rollover-locking clasp.
