“The Spratling of Peru” …
Florentine-born, Graziella Laffi lived and worked in Peru during the 1950’s, producing singular and stunning silver pieces in both modern and pre-Columbian forms. Most aficionados believe that her creations rival the masterworks that came out of Mexico. She is one of today’s hottest collectibles in the field. This exceptionally rare work shows Graziella Laffi at her imaginative best. At once fanciful and fabulist, the pin depicts a snail dog {or cat!} and is constructed employing all the artist’s trademark techniques, including superb cutwork, applied silver elements, minimalist but brilliantly defined tool work, and oxidizing to enhance detail. With the additional flourish of a bezel-set, turquoise blue enamel eye, as well as the convex form of the figure, the piece is a delightful gem of design and dimensionality. HALLMARKS: PERU, G. LAFFI, 925. DIMENSIONS: 1-5/8” x 1-1/2”. WEIGHT: 6.7 grams. CONDITION: Dating to the 1950’s, it is in excellent vintage condition, including a secure rollover clasp. |
